Abandoned

Since infogami has been abandoned by its creators, I’m out too. Back to web.fisher.cx for me. Everything that was here is there.

Silvion is a melieu for Classic D&D. Goals:

  • Back to basics.
  • Accessible (e.g. World is very Earthlike. Mostly straight ahead D&D so as to be familiar to D&D players. Use names of deities from myths so players instantly have a rough idea of them.)
  • Not very deep. A backdrop for the adventures rather than a lot of history & established NPCs to read about.

Silvion is an island realm. (About the size of Iceland, perhaps?) Much of the island is deciduous forest. Small, independant baronies dot the landscape with much wilderness inbetween. There are also a few city-states, such as the town of Ironmoon.

Notable Places:

(...)

Torhenge: Near the town of Ironmoon, this circle of standing stones serves as a sacred place for the cult of Thor.

Ironmoon:

The Grinning Gargoyle: Ye olde adventurers' meeting playce.

The Dragon's Flagon: A higher-class tavern.

The Buxom Mermaid: A inn & tavern in the port district favored by sailors who are in port. Also, a wretched hive of scum & villany.

The Mithraic cathedral:

The Priory of Isis:

The Shrine of Thor: This small edifice serves as the presence of Thor's cult in town & residence to the priests & acolytes who serve nearby Torhenge.

The Temple of Ishtar:

The Pantheon: Officially: “The Temple of All Gods Save One”

The Toadstool Circle: Purveyor of curios & unusual items.

The Wizard: Suto Lore is sometimes willing to work magic for a price. The price, however, is seldom monetary.

The Arena: Home to gladitorial games, trails by combat, & public executions.

The Citadel: The fortress of the overlord(?).

Demihumans: The lifespans of Silvion elves, dwarfs, & gnomes are not appreciably different than those of men. Halflings, however, have a lifespans about half those of men.

Demihumans lack souls & are not concerned with celestial affairs or drawn to veneration of the divine. In the course of seeking their own mundane goals, they may find themselves aligned with higher (or lower) powers.

Halflings are a possible exception. While some halflings do worship deities, some sages still hold that their motivations are still principally mundane & that they lack souls as well.

Although dwarfs appear male to men, they are actually asexual. They are loathe to speak about dwarfish reproduction.

Religion: Many deities are venerated in Silvion. Those with the greatest followings, however, are Mitra, Thor, & Isis.

Mitra: (also Mithra or Mithras) A deity of the Sun, Law & Justice. His church is a vast, heirarchial organization. (Though there are certainly some followers outside the church.)

Thor: (also Tor) A deity of the Sky, Thunder, & Strength.

Isis: A deity of Earth, Fertility, & Magic.

Tor the air, sky, & storms thunderbolt N
Isis the earth, fertility, & magic cow, ankh N
Ina (Ishtar) love & war morning/evening star N(C)

Beyond Silvion: Should you desire a name for the wider world in which Silvion resides, it is Murth.

(The empire--Ferrea? Yz? Yzea? Zytium? Zyntia? Zantean? Basilea? Mora? Emoria?)

The Silvion calendar

For the most part, I'll probably just use Gregorian dates in play, but here are some (in progress) thoughts about the Silvion calendar.

The day after the winter solstice is considered the first day of the year. Each new moon marks the beginning of a new month.

The start of a year seldom coincides with the start of a month. (Once every 19 years or so.) The days between the winter solstice & the next new moon technically belong to the last month of the previous year. Sometimes they will be referenced relative to the start of the year rather than the start of the month.

Silvion measures

Distance:

  • 1 league (an hour's walk) = 3 miles = 3,000 paces = 5,000 yards = 15,000 feet
  • 1 mile = 1,000 paces = 5,000 feet
  • 1 pace = 5 feet
  • 1 yard = 3 feet

Time:

  • breath (12 to 20 per minute)
  • (heart)beat (60 (or more) per minute)
