Abandoned

Since infogami has been abandoned by its creators, I’m out too. Back to web.fisher.cx for me. Everything that was here is there.

Campaigns

  • Revive the Lord of the Rings fourth age campaign. (Coda)
  • The fantastical Constantinian campaign. (D&D...wait...epiphany!...no...M&M)
  • Silvion/Ironmoon. (D&D)
  • The Marches: Law v. Chaos. (D&D)
  • Classic Traveller fantasy? (pulp sword & sorcery)
  • Start a classic D&D campaign at name level!
  • An exploration of the unknown lands (i.e. the AH Outdoor Survival map)

Other ideas:

  • Wuxia + Buck Rogers. (My Star Wars) Wushu abilities. Egalitarian. Smithian inertialess drive.
  • Fantasy island hopping

Games I most want to play:

That I have:

  • Barbarians of Lemuria A free game by Simon Washbourne. Based on Lin Carter's Throngor books (which, in turn, were based on REH's Conan).
  • Buck Rogers High Adventure Cliffhangers By Jeff Grubb. Published by TSR in 1993 after XXVc. Based on the original comics.
  • Dragon Warriors A role-playing game published by a game book company. It's like classic D&D's identical cousin.
  • Dungeon Squad A brilliant 24-hour role-playing game by Jason Morningstar. (i.e. An entry in a contest to create a role-playing game in only 24-hours.) More minimalist than Dinky Dungeons.
  • Prince Valiant the Storytelling Game By Greg Stafford. Published in 1989. The little brother of Pendragon.
  • Wushu. A good substitute for Toon for one-offs?
  • Honorable Mention: Pace.
  • (I’m having Risus thoughts again)

That I don't have:

  • Dinky Dungeons A minimalist role-playing game. (Though not as minimalist as TWERPS.) I have never seen--& may never see--a copy.
  • Trollbabe (But not necessarily as actual trollbabes in its setting)

The interesting thing about this list (unless invalidated by a subsequent edit) is that they are all either free or out-of-print.

Homebrewing ideas

  • Simplified LA (stealing some ideas from d20 & BRP)
  • Realms of Magic: A Magic Realm RPG
  • R20: d20 simplified with some things from the 3e UA; similar to True20 but with some different choices
  • Low20: Classless d20 with fixed hp
  • Feat-trees: Similar to TFT but with levels; pick a new (feat-like) ability each level; abilities are organized into a DAG via prereqs
  • A game inspired by what I've read of Dinky Dungeons

Proto-D&D ideas

  • A sort of proto-D&D where level or HD is supreme
  • A proto-D&D variant with something like the Chainmail man-to-man table or the Traveller combat tables; d6 only

30 November 2006 thoughts:

I'm once again trying to put order to my homebrew thoughts.

  • There is some intersection of simplified d20, LA, & BRP (& True20) ("Low Fantasy") that keeps bouncing around my brain. The big problem, I think, is that there are two or three different directions vying in this area. (Update 25 Jan 2007: I think I've got this worked out to three possibilities: simplified LA, True20ish, & low fantasy.)
  • My constant ruminations on a proto-D&D seems to always lead towards Dungeon Squad or Dinky Dungeons. I should really try to finish a DDish draft.
  • Realms of Magic. I'd love to play this, but putting together a draft feels mostly like busy work. I should perhaps try to put together some playtests of the ideas.
  • I should stop thinking about Osric or a stripped down AD&D2e (or OD&D). Classic D&D is my baseline D&D, & I can borrow ideas from the others. Likewise, Dragon Warriors.
  • I really need a systems for genres other than fantasy, but my homebrew ideas so often seem to be fantasy based.
  • What I really should do is concentrate on finishing classic D&D play-aids, preparing for the LotR revival, or working on Silvion/Ironmoon.

Other thoughts:

  • I really want to develop some Wushu ideas to use for one-offs in place of Toon. I think the style of the two games (turns & player narration) are similar, but less narrative falling on me might make it go better. Also, I think I'd like something a bit less anything-goes than Toon.
  • Need to revive the LotR campaign. (Though perhaps I should challenge Jax to GM something first...)
  • On the one hand, I'm really anxious to run my own classic D&D stuff instead of modules. I think I generally do much better when not running modules. On the other hand, I'm so indecisive that I'm not really prepared to. But, this should wait until after the LotR revival.
  • As much as I enjoyed the classic Traveller campaign, I think (at least as GM) I'm more interested in more pulp-ish sci-fi right now. I could run Traveller in that style, but there are better fits.

Random thoughts:

  • How about a game where the players can create (virtually) any character they want? Not just a free-form, narrative kind of game. Take a traditional game & give the players carte blanche.
  • (Kirk-ish) What is the die roll determined if you would succeed if you tried instead of failure? (Perhaps Wushu gives similar results in a better way?)

Latest (15 June 2006) thoughts:

  • Of course, there’s Silvion.
  • I’m now thinking about a Star Trek (TOS/TAS era) campaign. (System?)
  • I came across my “low fantasy” d20 draft. That could be a fun thing to finish up sometime.
  • I’ve been thinking about my ideas for a streamlined LA style system.

I need to move & update my plans from the fisher.cx site. But for now, I’m just going to make a few notes of things I’m interested in...

  • Iron Lords of Jupiter in Low Fantasy/BRP style
