AbandonedSince infogami has been abandoned by its creators, I’m out too. Back to web.fisher.cx for me. Everything that was here is there. This was originally written for IfYouCallYourselfAmerican, but it seems I’ve failed the CaptchaTest. Because I’m a pedant, I avoid using “America” when I mean “USA” or “American” when I mean “concerning the USA”. I’ve been known to use “Usonia(n)” on occasion. I call myself an American only because I am a native of North America. I’m more likely to call myself a Texan, though. I prefer “Tellurian” to “Terrestrial”. I do acknowledge that I am a(n) Usonian even if I do strongly disagree with the policies of a fellow Texan who holds a prominent position in Washington, D.C. The liberty to openly disagree with the government is an important Usonian value. The truth, though, is that—at least when speaking English in the USA—“America” will be understood as “USA” & “American” will be understood as “concerning the USA”. If someone wants to speak of the continents, they will use “North America(n)” or “South America(n)”. Speaking of both, they will say “the Americas”. Which all works perfectly well. last updated 2 years ago # |
